Naugatuck, CT, 06770 , is a charming town in New Haven county.
Settled in 1701 as a farming community in rural western Connecticut, Naugatuck was later transformed into a mill town as the industrial revolution commenced.
Modern day Naugatuck is a bedroom community with the peaceful Naugatuck river flowing through it. The town spans both sides of the river, just south of Waterbury and includes the communities of Union City, Straitsville and Millville. Union City is on the east side of the river and has it’s own post office, Straitsville is on the southeast side, along Rt 63 and Millville is located to the west (Along Rubber Ave). Commuting is easy since Naugatuck is located on the Route 8 corridor, is very close to I-84 and offers limited rail and busing service. Just a short drive and you can be in Bridgeport in 35 minutes, Waterbury in 5 minutes, Hartford in 25 minutes and New Haven in 30 minutes which makes business and entertainment options nearly limitless!
Spend a little time in Naugatuck and you will quickly learn that the residents love the small town feel while still having everything they could want/need very close by. Some of the other things that you will be sure to notice are the safe, attractive family friendly neighborhoods. This is a small town that makes an effort to offer programs and functions geared around families. With beautiful parks, well kept playgrounds, plenty of opportunities to play sports and a local YMCA, this is a small town that is impossible to be bored in! The downtown area is charming and decorated with plenty of boutiques, antique shops and fine dining.
One of the other great things about Naugatuck is the variety of housing choices, from condos to new custom home construction in communities. The sense that I get from the locals is that you can definitely make your money go farther here and not have to compromise on safety, feeling of community, activities, access to shopping & restaurants, clean parks and friendly neighbors!
Of course a fantastic little town such as Naugatuck is going to have some hidden gems (and some not so hidden gems) for you to enjoy! Nardelli’s Grinder Shoppe was featured on the Food Network’s, Food Paradise because of their impressive deli menu of many freshly made Italian specialties and sandwiches. Once you have your lunch in hand, why not enjoy a picnic at one of the local parks. Naugatuck State Forest is an incredible place to explore and enjoy nature. The forest covers almost 5,000 acres and is spread across Naugatuck, Beacon Falls, Oxford, Bethany, Hamden, Cheshire, Ansonia, and Seymour. It is organized into five Blocks, named West, East, Mt. Sanford, Quillinan Reservoir, and Great Hill. The forest is managed for recreational activities such as hiking, hunting, mountain biking, bird-watching, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing.
The Parks and Recreation Department offers holiday events for all seasons and there are presently three themed villages: Easter, Halloween and Christmas. You can also find ongoing events hosted at the Town Green, such as concerts and fairs. They also organize and run various summer activities for residents, including sports programs and summer playground programs.
Whether your ice skating at Saint Francis Field in the winter or playing golf at Hop Brook Golf course, be sure to take in the quaint New England charm and the views that surround this special little town.
Naugatuck is a great place to live with tons of potential to grow!
